Show rate

The percentage of booked appointments that the customer actually attends. Critical for service businesses; often where revenue leaks happen.

What it means

Show rate is calculated as: (appointments attended) divided by (appointments booked). A 70 percent show rate means 30 percent of bookings turn into no-shows. The reverse is no-show rate.

Show rate is most relevant for appointment-based businesses: clinics, salons, fitness studios, education, professional services. For e-commerce or pure-digital products, it does not apply.

Why it matters

For service businesses, show rate is often the largest hidden revenue lever. A 70 percent show rate means 30 percent of your booked time is wasted. Lifting it to 85 percent is the equivalent of growing your bookings by 21 percent without any extra acquisition spend.

WhatsApp reminders are the most effective intervention. A reminder 24 hours before, a confirmation 2 hours before, and an opportunity to reschedule with one tap typically lifts show rate by 10 to 15 percentage points.

Example

An aesthetic clinic has a 68 percent show rate. They add a 24-hour utility-template reminder with a 'confirm or reschedule' button. Show rate climbs to 84 percent over two months. Same staff, same room utilisation, 24 percent more attended sessions per week.
