What it means

WhatsApp Catalog is a built-in storefront feature for business accounts. Each catalog item has a name, image, price, and description. Customers can browse the catalog from inside a chat, share specific products, and (with WhatsApp Commerce enabled) add items to a cart without leaving the conversation.

Catalogs work on both the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business API. On the API, the catalog is managed through Meta Business Manager and synced automatically with chat experiences.

Why it matters

For inventory-driven businesses (e-commerce, F&B, retail), the catalog removes the biggest friction in WhatsApp commerce: getting the customer from question to ordered cart. Instead of describing products in chat or sending external links, the customer browses native cards inside the conversation.

Combined with AI agents, catalog browsing becomes conversational: ask the agent for vegan options, get a curated catalog response, tap to add. No friction, no app-switching.
